Blueys v's St George

Blueys v's St George Blue Mountains Rugby hosted 3rd. Division newcomers St. George on the 5th.June and came away with wins in all 4 grades. The Lapstone Hotel First XV defeated Saints by 26-10 and maintained second position on the ladder. The Blues opened their account with a try to winger Darren Thomas down the right flank. Shortly after, hooker Dean Heke was over for the first of his double converted by David Twomey. Saints responded with a try and at the break the Blues led by 12 points to 5. Blind side loosie Tim Edwards galloped to the line and was over for the Blues third; again Twomey adding the extras to take the score out to 19-5. Saints bounced back with their second try but the Blues responded with Heke over again and converted by Twomey to secure the win plus the bonus point.Best & fairest: Tim Edwards (3 points); David Twomey(2); Ben Smith & Dean Heke (1 each); Player's Player: Ben Smith. Second Grade were convincing winners by a comfortable 29-13 with Number 8 Matt Nelson scoring a hat trick of tries after Cameron Williams was over for the first.Goals were kicked by James Ritchie & Pat O'Heir. Best & Fairest: Matt Nelson (3); David Smoth & Mick Haumu (2); James Brownlee & Pat O'Heir (1 each); Player's Player: Matt Nelson. Third Grade continued on its winning way with a 19-7 victory with tries to Russell Walsh, Jason Green & Matt Hickey with Lee Hinton converting two. Best & Fairest: Tom Pittman (3); Luke Oxford(2); Josh MacPherson & Matt Hickey (1 each); Player's Player: Tom Pittman. Fourth Grade ran out winners by 22-5 with tries to Rob Handley, Morvin Edwards and Jason Rik with Handley adding 2 conversions and a penalty goal. Best & Fairest: Travis Seagar (3); Steve Muller (2); Ben Bifield (1); Player's Player: Travis Seagar. The Under 19's travelled to Engadine and despite leading by most of the match, a try to the opposition on the bell saw the juniors go down by 10-7. Sean Hageman was the try scorer. Best & Fairest: Josh Grant(3); Josh Lowndes (2); Dave Willis & Luke Wheatland (1 each); Player's Player: Josh Lowndes. Next Weekend the Blues travel to Epping for the final game of the first round.
