Round 3 Epping 21.4.18

What a sensational day at Lapstone Oval the Blueys winning five in row for the second week in a row pretty safe to say for the first time in the club’s history. However apart from the end result in fours compared with last week each game found the Blueys up against a very determined opposition and many a heart stopping moment for all at the goat track.

1st Grade

Got home 27-16 in what was a really quality game of Rugby between two very hard -working sides. While the Blueys set piece work was not always consistent and at times they cost themselves advantage at crucial stages through getting too excited, there was no doubting the level of their commitment and class and a perfect example was the great try in clubhouse  corner from Joel Togo which sealed the result in the shadows of full-time.This team has yet to show its best and its going to be awesome when they do. Looking at individual performances Danny Kroll kicking game was amazing ,Kiwi showed once again why he has been the clubs most consistently outstanding Rugby player so far in 2018,what a first grade debut for Jaiden sensational, Ellis was all class and of course not to mention the sight of the return of George and the number 23 jumper to the first grade cauldron. The ref gave his points to Zac well done.

2nd Grade

Seconds spent most of the game in their own half and had to absorb a ton of pressure but still maintained their undefeated status with a 27-25 win on the bell with Connor McNicol kicking a last gap field goal. Defence was the key to victory the tries conceded where more from lack of communication that missed tackles however we did lose a lot of ball and we looked a bit disorganised at times but we still had the fight in the team to snatch victory. Spanner got through a mountain of work Graham backing up put mongrel and inspiration into the equation while Blake gave the boys great go forward.

Colts

The colts game saw the Blueys under pressure most of the way from both the opposition and the man in the middle but such is then spirit and ability of this side that they fought their way back to win on the final play of the day. Jared Cremona crashed over for a great individual try to snatch a 22-20 victory after the young Blueys were down 17-7 at one stage. The Epping captain stunned the crowd by continually not taking three penalty shots in front when it was 17-17 finally he did and the rams thought they were home till Jared showed them how its done powering his way through the opposition pack to score the match winner. He was inspirational on the day Jed Sinclair once again put in five star effort Campbell Russell was electrifying and the return of Luke Ruttley was another feature of a memorable game.

3rd Grade

After two one sided victories thirds came up against a very strong and well drilled Epping side who made the Blueys work for their gains for the entire match in a 19-13 win. Whenever they had to they rose to the occasion, and their never say die attitude blended perfectly with their abilities. The pack led the way with Trent Childs and brother Aaron running amok all day while Issac Junod was a tower of strength and class and gave the opposition hell.

4th Grade

Despite a few last minute changes fourths stormed home 26-7 to move up the table again. After a slow start inspirational skipper Bully got the boys into the groove and from there on things looked good. If the Blueys forwards maintained the advantage the backs would do the rest and that’s just what happened and the points flowed man of the match Matt Green used his brilliance to dominate out wide scoring two and setting up others and played classic footy Adam Wright was good again Jake Green was at his  best and Garrie McEwen played his usual great team role doing the right thing at all the important times of the match however the game will best be remembered probably for Tom "wrecking ball" Pittman contribution in his 450th game he took on the opposition pack all day inspired his team mates and of course kicked a terrible conversion to celebrate his historic and proud milestone. Great effort Tommy
