Round 1 Forest 7.4.18

The Blueys first grade side went into the opening match of the season surrounded by a lot of hype and expectation but found a more committed Forest too strong going down 27-15. Mountains lacked intensity on the day, and made far too many mistakes which helped to give the visitors a leg up at crucial stages particularly in the first half. However there was still plenty of positive Rugby played, with the efforts of the likes of Chris “kiwi” Lukins and Brad Brown stand outs, while Ellis Patrick celebrated his 100th first grade game in style.

In a bruising second grade encounter, the man father time forgot, Jon Wickenden kicked a towering penalty goal on the bell to see the Blueys sneak home 15-14. It was no place for then faint hearted out on the paddock, but Mountains stood tall under pressure with Jaiden Cranfield sensational, and a worthy winner of man of the match honours.

The all new colts outfit looked a bit scratchy as expected, but as usual showed a guts and determination that only they can produce in their 20-10 loss to the highly rated Forest. The boys tried all the way and could have done with a little more luck to reward their effort,Young gun Jared Cremona was on fire all day and certainly let the opposition know he was around with some excellent Rugby, while it was no suprise Liam Frank was all class.

What a display from the thirds running amok to record a one sided 49-12 victory. There was champagne Rugby played from one end of the field to the other by the rampant Blueys, Tom Teuma leading the way with a master class of ability, while the Childs boys were a nightmare for the opposition.

Fourths fought all the way but went down 8-7 to last years minor premiers. It was a tough day out but the Blueys stuck to their guns, and some of their last ditch defence was what really kept them in the game. There were plenty of great individual displays in a real team effort, James Brown was outstanding, while Brad Leicester was a tremendous example for his team mates to follow.
