Vale Ian “Hoopy” Hooper

Ian passed away on Saturday 27th April 2019 after suffering a fatal heart attack while refereeing a rugby union game at the Lennox Head football club.

He played 169 games for the Blueys throughout the 1970's 1980’s and 1990’s and played in the 1979 1st Grade McLean Cup premiership winning side.He was a very cheeky charismatic halfback and was a valued part of the clubs culture for decades and a great clubman. 

After leaving the mountains and heading to the NSW Far North Coast Ian’s passion for rugby continued when he took up refereeing in the Far North Coast Competition. Ian was a past President current chairman of Coaching and grading, Appointments Officer and referee coach and Life member of the Far North Coast Rugby Referee Association.     

He was devoted to his family. Wife Julie and his two boys Tom and Max.

Ian touched many people’s lives and will be sadly missed.
